Officer Assaulted During Arrest of Burglary Suspect
On Monday, April 1 at 11:04 a.m., officers were dispatched to multiple locations following reports of a man attempting to break into cars using a screwdriver. He was first spotted near 7373 W 84th Way and later confronted by a citizen near Lamar and Chase.
An officer located the suspect near 5895 W 86th Ave, at which point the suspect tried to flee. During the foot chase, the suspect tripped and became entangled with the officer, grabbing his leg in an attempt to gain control. The officer struggled to break free from the suspect and two unidentified citizens, witnessing the altercation, stepped in to assist. The suspect was booked into Jefferson County Jail on multiple charges. The officer suffered minor cuts. We’d like to extend our thanks to the citizens who helped, even though we didn’t catch their names! (AR25005379)
Officer Assaulted During Mental Health Crisis Call
On Monday, April 1 at 3:36 p.m., officers responded to a welfare check at a residence. A parent had called requesting help for their son, who was experiencing a mental health crisis.
When an officer arrived and began speaking with the father, the son suddenly growled and punched the officer in the shoulder. The officer backed away and gave verbal commands, but the man continued to attack, swinging punches toward the officer’s head. The officer deployed a Taser, successfully subduing the man.
He was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation and subsequently booked into Jefferson County Jail. He faces charges of assault on a peace officer. (AR25005400)
Armed Home Invasion in Arvada Leads to Multi-Agency Pursuit and Arrest
On Tuesday, April 2 just before 2:40 p.m., two male suspects entered a home near 7600 Reed Street in Arvada and held the resident at gunpoint, demanding money and the keys to his Honda Civic. After rummaging through a purse on scene and confirming the victim had no cash, the suspects fled the area in the stolen vehicle.
Arvada officers quickly located the vehicle near W 80th Ave and Wadsworth Blvd and initiated a pursuit, which was discontinued for safety reasons near Simms St. Detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene to assist, and FLOCK camera technology later spotted the vehicle near Monaco and Leetsdale in Denver.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., a Colorado State Patrol aircraft returning from another call spotted the stolen Honda heading northbound on I-25 near Larkspur. The aircraft unit coordinated with ground units from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Lone Tree Police, Colorado State Patrol, and other local agencies to intercept the vehicle.
Around 8:15 p.m., deputies deployed stop sticks near Havana Street and I-25. The vehicle continued briefly before officers executed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) near Rosemont Avenue, bringing the pursuit to an end. Both suspects fled on foot but were taken into custody within minutes. A stolen handgun was found in the vehicle.
The suspects had active warrants for auto theft, robbery, burglary, and parole violations. They were medically cleared before being booked into Douglas County Jail.
The Colorado State Patrol is handling the investigation into the vehicle pursuit and apprehension, while Arvada PD is handling the original home invasion and auto theft case. Additional charges are pending. (AR25005466)
Thank you to all the agencies that contributed to a positive outcome in this case! Footage of Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies apprehending the suspects can be viewed on Facebook.
Suspicious Vehicle Call Uncovers Stolen Car, Drugs, and Forged VIN
On Thursday, April 4 at 3:29 p.m., officers responded to a welfare check involving a vehicle that had been parked near 11135 Ralston Rd for over two hours. Upon approach, an officer observed drug paraphernalia in plain view and noted signs of vehicle tampering, including a punched ignition.
Officers developed a tactical plan to safely remove the occupant and he was taken into custody without incident. A search of the suspect and the vehicle uncovered multiple types of controlled substances and additional drug paraphernalia. Officers discovered that the vehicle's visible VIN plate had been replaced with a forged one, and additional identifiers had been removed. A VIN plate inside the engine bay confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Denver.
The suspect was transported to jail and booked on several charges, including possession of stolen property and narcotics. (AR25005649)
