Fatal Hit-and-Run Involving Motorized Wheelchair on Wadsworth
On May 8, 2025, at about 1:56 a.m., a man using a motorized wheelchair was struck and killed by a vehicle while traveling southbound in the 5300 block of Wadsworth Boulevard. The vehicle fled the scene, and the victim was discovered by a passerby. Detectives and crime scene investigators developed leads, ultimately identifying the suspect vehicle. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau and officers from the Community Response Impact Team later located the vehicle and gathered additional evidence. On May 30, the driver was located and arrested. (AR25007636)
Cigarette Theft at Walgreens Upgraded to Robbery
On June 1, 2025, at about 8:18 p.m., officers responded to a report of a theft at Walgreens. Upon arrival, officers determined the incident was a robbery, as the suspect had used threats of force to steal more than $1,000 worth of cigarettes. The suspect fled in a waiting vehicle parked nearby. The suspect was not located after a search of the area, and the scene was processed for evidence. The case remains under investigation. Scam Alert: Fraudulent DMV Messages Targeting Coloradans
The Colorado DMV is warning the public about a scam involving fake text messages and emails that falsely claim you have unpaid tickets. These messages may threaten prosecution, suspension of your vehicle registration, or loss of driving privileges to scare you into clicking a malicious link.
These messages look official but are not from the DMV. The DMV does not contact people through unsolicited texts or emails to demand payment or threaten legal action.
If you receive one of these messages:

Do not share personal or financial information.
Delete the message.

Get an Inside Look at Your Police Department
The 2025 Citizens Police Academy is a free 10-week course that offers community members an inside look at police department operations. Learn directly from officers and staff about patrol, DUI enforcement, special investigations, school resource officers, mental health response and more.
